Painting Party
We set up an exciting outside group art experience in our under 2 environment at BestStart Hastings Central recently. The children were eager to be involved and everyone happily got their aprons on and shared the space with their friends.
Each child's approach to painting was a bit different. From very sensory in ones painting style wanting to feel the paint and taste paint to explore it and make sense of it. Another has been interested in colours lately so was naming the colours and as the colours mixed we talked about the colours changing. Another child had a great time changing her brush from one hand to the other as she explored the paint, making lovely neat strokes. Our youngest child’s approach was very chilled, happy with his little spot sitting on the ground and painting where ever he could reach.
This group experience offers the children opportunities to extend their social skills through sharing the space and taking turns with paint and brushes as they negotiate with each other. All the children were great at keeping the paint on the paper and not giving our fence another coat of paint.
