Over the last few months, we have been exploring Papatuanuku here at BestStart Heuheu Street, where the tamariki have grown to learn the importance of our natural world.

As the tamariki had been exploring Papatuanuku, we thought we would link that interest with an upcoming open day. We got in touch with our local Mitre10 who donated lots of soil, flowers and veggie seeds that our tamariki and those families who came to visit could plant a plant/seed and take it home with them.

Within our centre philosophy it says "we endeavour to provide an environment that creates, inspires and supports children to think, to wonder, to be challenged, to investigate further and to research their working theories of the world around them"

Through this planting experience the tamariki where able to practice the steps of what it takes to plant a seed and develop their own working theories on how this is done! Each tamariki who planted a plant that day, was then able to take it home to care for it in their own home gardens.

He ra tino aatahua! It was a beautiful day, and all the tamariki who were able to participate did an amazing job learning about planting seeds!
