Parent Evening at BestStart Stoddard Road
The power of parental engagement to positively affect a child’s learning is undeniable. We believe that it is important to build strong relationships with parents so that we can work together to support every child’s learning and well-being. It was truly a pleasure to have Parvati (Early Intervention teacher) and Alicia (Speech and language therapist) from the Ministry of Education with us for the parent evening.
It was an informative evening that provided the opportunity to share with our families and teachers as we all strengthened our understanding of how to best support our children's learning in communication and social play. Communication is much more than words - Communication is the way we connect and interact with people. It is part of our identity and culture. It helps us to learn, interact with others, and to make friends. They shared about the importance of communication and strategies we can use in our daily routines with children.
Communication development varies across languages and cultures. Many children live in homes where more than one language is spoken. This provides an opportunity for them to be multilingual and should be encouraged and valued. It is important for the adults around the child to use the language that they are most comfortable and familiar with as this will provide the best models for the child.
