Paying our turtle a visit!
Here at BestStart Morrinsville, the tamariki have a wide range of areas to explore.
One of the favourite areas the tamariki love to explore is our friend Murtle the Turtle. Murtle lives in a fenced-off area with all of the things she loves, including a pond, sunny and shady places to sit, friends who come and visit her through the fence and friends who love to come and feed her.
Murtle is currently in hibernation for the winter, so we like to visit her from a safe distance so that we don't wake her up. The tamariki love visiting Murtle! Here is a group of friends who have come on a visit to Murtle. They told each other that we must be quiet because Murtle was sleeping in her pond. Here we also talk about how we don't need to feed Murtle while she is sleeping just in case she gets a sore puku.
Murtle is such a fun learning experience as the tamariki have the opportunity to support their kaiako in looking after Murtle. They are always off looking for kai for Murtle to feed her and talking about what food is the best food to be feeding Murtle.
