Peace and love

International Day of Peace is observed across the world on September 21 every year. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. In 2021, as we heal from the COVID-19 pandemic, we are inspired to think creatively  and collectively about how to build resilience, and how to transform our world into a better place for everyone.

International Peace Day is a day we always like to celebrate at Montessori Flagstaff for its special message to everyone. Peace was a  concept that was dear to the heart of Maria Montessori who believed the way to world peace began with the child. A couple of well-known quotes from Maria says, "The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind" and "Peace is what every human being is craving for and it can be brought about by humanity through the child".

We gathered to share our thoughts and understanding about what peace means for us. We also expressed these thoughts through songs and then joining together in our traditional celebration where each child lights a candle for peace and places it around our world globe.
