Physical development for our tamariki

Physical development for our tamariki

Winter often brings inclement weather, which makes it challenging to get outside.

Our ākonga, who cannot walk yet, do not enjoy the wet or icy cold on their hands and tinana. Our classroom is lucky to have the church to use on these days when no one is sleeping!

We have some fantastic inside climbing equipment which provides a challenge and a way for our tamariki and pēpi to move their tinana and support their physical development. They are able to explore what their tinana can do and grow their confidence.

Often the best game is to chase the balls around, practising rolling and throwing them. Our class also has soft spaces that provide a place to sit, watch, rest or read a pukapuka. Often there is spontaneous waiata, instigated by kaiako or tamariki. No matter the weather, we are able to provide a well-rounded environment for our inquisitive, keen-to-learn tamariki and pēpi.
