This term our Pikoura classroom has been full of rich learning, creativity, and meaningful play.
Our tamariki have been exploring the beauty of Autumn, engaging in a range of hands-on arts and crafts using leaves and warm autumn colours.
Through these experiences, children have been developing their creativity, fine motor skills, and an appreciation for the natural world around them. A particularly special area of interest this term has been children’s growing curiosity around weddings and family life.
This has led to rich imaginative play, where tamariki have been exploring real-life experiences through dress-ups, baby dolls, and role play. These moments are more than just play, they are opportunities for children to develop their social skills, communication, and understanding of relationships. We have seen children working together, negotiating roles, and expressing their ideas with increasing confidence.
Our new bikes have been a big hit, helping tamariki build confidence, coordination, and independence. We also had a very successful holiday programme, with dress-up experiences encouraging creativity and self-expression. Behind the scenes, teachers have been intentionally supporting literacy, numeracy, and communication skills throughout everyday play and interactions.
We are seeing a positive impact, with children growing in confidence and engagement. We are proud of the progress our tamariki have made and look forward to another exciting term ahead.
