BestStart is one of NZ's leading early childcare providers. BestStart Alexandra provides affordable, high quality education and award winning childcare for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.

At BestStart Alexandra, a child is a treasure, to be nurtured, to grow, to flourish!

BestStart Alexandra is proud to be the first centre in the Central Otago region to receive a prestigious 4-year ERO return, placing us in the top 7% of New Zealand childcare centres for providing positive learning outcomes for children.

At the heart of our centre are strong, reciprocal relationships. Every child and whānau are warmly welcomed, respected, and valued, creating a sense of connection and empowerment that ensures families, tamariki, and kaiako work together to achieve the best outcomes for each individual child.

Set in a beautiful outdoor environment, our centre celebrates the unique traditions and values of our community. From our Matariki disco to our Christmas festivities, we embrace whānau and community traditions, weaving them into our localized curriculum. Our motorbike and jet ski in the playground reflect the vibrant character of Central Otago, while our natural, holistic approach to learning inspires a lifelong love of discovery in tamariki.

With a culturally diverse and passionate teaching team, a focus on respect and empowerment, and regular excursions into the community, BestStart Alexandra is a place where every child can thrive.

We are the only centre in Alexandra who do not close for 2-3 weeks over Christmas so are very convenient for families who need to work over this period.

Our Team

Our well-established team is built on robust, reciprocal relationships and a shared passion for nurturing a love of learning in our tamariki. We celebrate the cultural diversity within our team, valuing and integrating different nationalities into our curriculum. With a natural, holistic approach to learning and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, we look forward to reconnecting with our wider community through regular excursions.

What We Offer

Our Spaces

At BestStart Alexandra, we provide education and care for children aged 3 months to 5 years in our two dedicated spaces: Koru (under 2s) and Pikorua (2–5-year-olds). We trust and support tamariki to lead their own learning, with teachers building on their interests to create meaningful, engaging experiences that inspire curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. Our approach is grounded in the RIE/Pikler philosophy, fostering respect and independence throughout our centre.

kind words from our parents

Parent

I love the events that the centre put on for the parents and whanau so we can get to know each other and the teachers better. The Matariki disco was so much fun and the Coffee and Dessert night when the teachers talked about Transitions was very informative and so yummy!

Parent

I really appreciate the extra effort the teaching team go to for my child. Thank you for all the support you give me as a parent. It is so nice to see my child fitting in and making new friends.

Parent

My child never wants to leave the centre when I pick them up. The team are friendly and approachable and I know I can always talk to any of them about my child.

Parent

I love that my child has choices now that he is at this centre. He is able to take responsibility for his own learning and that has really empowered him.
