Pink Shirt Day
Friday the 19th of May was Pink Shirt Day to stand in solidarity against bullying. Here at BestStart Cranford Street we had a big day full of dress ups and pink activities to show our support. Our lovely Nursery teachers had made rainbow biscuits which the children enjoyed for morning tea and the salt they use to help the tamariki explore their senses was dyed bright pink! As always, there were lots of conversations and guidance about using kind words and gentle hands with our friends to help build empathy even in our youngest children.
Hanging up in our Explorers room (2-3yrs) is some stunningly pink painting done by our tamariki. During the day important conversations about what it means to be a good friend were had, especially about using kind words, sharing our toys, and playing with all our friends.
In our Preschool room (3-4), the day was filled with activities about being kind to our friends. Lots of colouring and painting which is displayed in our classroom. During mat time we read books about being brave and kind and practices our affirmations: “I am strong, I am brave, I am smart, I am kind.”
The Extension room (4+) were busy all day with lots of pink activities. Our wonderful teachers had organised an “pink love” heat cutting activity to help tamariki explore what it means to be a good friend and start great conversations in our oldest class about how we treat people.
We also had lots of pink playdough, pink painting, show and tell, and of course, lots of dancing! Here at BestStart Cranford Street we believe that it is never too young to learn how to be a good friend and to build positive and empathetic foundations in tamariki of all ages. If you are thinking about BestStart Cranford Street as a place for your child, please send an enquiry. We would love to have you join our whanau!
