This afternoon we were all sitting inside the room due to excessive rain. Hence, we planned to make pizzas inside the room and help our chef in preparing for Lunch! As soon as I shared the news with tamariki, they all lined up and couldn't wait enough to participate in pizza-making.

I asked everyone to quickly wash their hands and dry them before they were seated. They quickly washed their hands and seated themselves to decorate the pizzas for lunchtime. Tamariki started taking turns by initially putting pizza sauce on top of the pizza dough and later topping it with cheese as well as mozzarella cheese. We then chopped some vegetables to which included some capsicum, carrots, and onions to finish making our pizzas for lunch. We also made some dairy-free option pizza for our friends who had dietary needs to cater for.

Cooking can help tamariki learn and practice some basic math concepts such as measuring, levelling, and building language skills as they were communicating constantly about different types of pizza they like to enjoy with their families while sitting at home such as pepperoni pizza, chicken pizza, and even vegetarian pizza. It also helps in building their self-confidence and lays the foundation for healthy eating habits. It took some simple prep work only, but they really enjoyed eating the pizza for lunch.
