Earlier this month our four-year-old children started a project about follow sets of instructions. We have been learning to do this in many creative ways including following recipes. To further this learning, we set the challenge to our four-year olds to write there own instructions and recipe for pizza making and then make the pizzas. This project including writing the shopping list and recipe, going to purchase the ingredients from the supermarket and then making the pizza for there lunch. With all the groundwork done a group of 8 children walked to our local supermarket to buy groceries we needed. After some prep of cutting and slicing ingredients we were ready to assemble our pizzas. All the children made 2 small pizzas each. Some of the children chose to take their pizza home to share with their family. Fostering independence in our high 5s is an underpinned element of our entire preschool programme. Activities like this encouraging our four-year olds to be in charge of and drive their own learning.
