Planting our very own apple tree!
At BestStart Taita children are learning about natural living things especially about gardening. The teachers and children have been talking about different fruits and vegetables they would like to grow in our community gardern which is located at the back of our building. Last week we were donated an apple tree so some of the tamariki from the Awhero and Pūtohe room got to work choosing a special place for the new tree to be planted. The children all worked as a team to dig a hole and plant our new tree in. The tamariki took great care in covering the roots back up and pressing the soil back down. Through this learning experience our beautiful children are learning about the natural world and how plants can grow in the soil through their roots. They are also learning to work as a team when digging and are having meaninful conversations on what they are doing and what they can see. The teachers will continue to teach children different ways in which they can help the apple tree grow bigger each day. The children are very excited to see what other plants will be donated by our community. Hopefully in the next year during summer time we will have some yummy apples to eat as a snack.
