Planting seeds
A quick planting session went down really well a few days ago!
The children all gathered around and everyone seemed very eager to have a go at touching the seeds and scooping in the soil into the egg cartons. We talked about caring for the seeds and what they might grow into, this conversation quickly lead into what kinds of food we like and what we do not like, most children said that once our plants have grown that they might to try it.
During this activity the children had opportunity to share their knowledge and past experiences about planting and food. The children respectfully waited their turn, and participated in conversation. We talked about watering our plants and taking care of them, this particular learning can be linked to a Te Ao Maori concept of Manaakitanga, where I take care of the environment.
The children will be able to water these seeds daily, and watch the seeds grow into plants, replant them and watch the fruits and vegetables develop. They will then be able to harvest this and eat it. what a great cycle to be part off.
