Play and exploration enhances children’s curiosity to learn. As our tamariki were engaged in exciting adventures at BestStart Kenderdine Road, they found themselves fascinated to learn more about their learning environment. In the month of September throughout different rooms, children were enjoying the first month of spring with joy. They experienced wet, cold, and warm moments as they took these opportunities to be more imaginative and creative. Children were busy developing their understanding about Maori and Chinese culture through many different intentional experiences. They explored the Chinese dragon by creating it with natural materials. Children also developed their problem-solving skills while exploring the chopsticks for cooking and eating purposes. The cultural dress up day was an opportunity to share their own culture as well as learn and appreciate other cultures with pride and respect.

The exploration of natural resources with the concept of sustainability was visible in our tamariki’s learning journey. Children learnt about the working theory of how changes happen as you dig the soil, discover roots and insects, and create structures with bamboo sticks.
