At BestStart Avondale one of the learning objectives for teachers is to encourage problem - solving skills amongst children. Children are encouraged to work with each other/alongside to find solutions to their problem's. Children participate in this by having a desired outcome, in this case, both the children wanted to stack the blocks on top of each other, without the block stand. They both listened to each other and with their teamwork, creativity and communication they were able to stack/balance the blocks on top of each other without the stand.

The children are learning, mathematical concepts, shapes, sizes, weight, height and balancing object. Communication was the key to their teamwork.

Block play requires fine and gross motor skill and enhances children's language, mathematical skills, literacy abilities and problem-solving skills. Block play also promotes physical development, such as spatial awareness and develops hand-eye coordination as children learn to lift, move and build with blocks, strengthening their fingers, hands and arms.

Teaching children problem- solving skills results in 'happier, more confident, and more independent" individuals.
