It has been a busy month here at BestStart Paraparaumu filled with lots of learning opportunities for tamariki.  Firstly,  we were lucky to have a visit from Project Jonah who taught the tamariki all about ways to help protect whales and how to help in a stranding. They learnt not to cover the blow hole and to avoid the tail when pouring water on a whale. This was then all put into practice as they poured water over a blow-up whale. Tamariki were all so gentle and did a great job keeping the whale wet. Once they had finished this they all came inside and lay on an Orca whale cut-out to see if they were bigger or not. We barely had room to lay it out in the classroom!

As well this month all the classrooms have been learning about ANZAC Day and making some wonderful displays. Not only did the tamariki learn about ANZAC Day but they were using several Be School Ready skills during the different activities on offer such as fine motor skills, communication (verbal and nonverbal) and colour recognition.
