We celebrated pride month at BestStart Cranford Street this June, coming together for an epic day of celebration and learning through stories, music, dramatic play, sensory, art and more. We were so proud of all the children and families who participated, coming in their best rainbow outfits and donating to rainbow youth. Here we are inclusive of all in New Zealand and want to ensure we recognise, appreciate and learn about all the different people who make up the world and our whānau. See below some fun experiences we did in each classroom to help bring this community to life!

Nursery - In this room they explored the colours of the rainbow through coloured salt, exploring different textures and learning about their colours. To finish the day, they made beautiful coloured handprints to decorate their room and create an inclusive environment for pride month.

Explorers - The two-year-olds are all about their senses in this room, so they were provided with art and messy play activities that opened their bodies and mind to learning. Whether it was making rainbows through salt, paint or cut and paste, we discussed differences of not only colour but of people too.

Preschool - got their minds really working as they dived into science and art experiences, trying to mix colours and make colourful displays of rainbows. With all the excitement of rainbows, the Preschool utilised this to engage in fun but meaningful stories about the rainbow community at mat time.

Extension - With the big children of the centre being in this room, they helped to bring alive the rainbow atmosphere helping to bring rainbows out in their dress up, face-paint, stories and art work throughout their room. This room was busy all day!
