Reading opens the door to Adventures
Here at BestStart Kaiapoi, we love how reading opens the door to adventures, allows us to learn new things, and helps develop a whole host of key language skills such as speech development. We believe spending time with books also creates special moments.
To foster this, we held a book week. Our centre whānau bought in their favourite books from home to share with their teachers and friends. We had a dress-up day and invited Sam from Scholastic Books to present some prizes. It was a wonderful week full of whānau contributions. We had such a great turnout for our dress-up day and they loved the fun and engaging learning environment that we provide. Speech, language, and communication are critical areas of development for children. They play a vital role throughout our lives, helping us to understand the world around us, communicate our basic needs and feelings, hold conversations, think and learn, develop relationships, and solve problems.
We work with outside agencies to ensure our children are supported and have success with speech and language. Here at BestStart Kaiapoi, we love the Dr. Seuss quote, “The more you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go”.
