Recycled Art at BestStart East Tamaki
Our preschool tamariki are learning the value of using recycled material to create amazing artwork. Our children have been using old wood pieces, bottle tops and a glue gun to create their masterpieces. This isn't an easy task, as this requires lots of creative thinking about what to make, collecting those thought processes together to take a final picture in the mind and then putting this picture into reality by using available resources (wood pieces, bottle tops).
What's more important is our children learning the social skills of sharing, taking turns and waiting patiently for their turn. Through providing learning experiences of using recycled material for developing creativity we are hoping to get our tamariki to learn about sustainability and to take care of our environment through creating something out of waste. From Maori perspective, this involves the concept of Kaitiakitanga - that means guardians or protectors of nature.
