Recycling is fun!
As kaitiaki of BestStart Hillcrest, recycling is very important for our community and the world, and here at BS Hillcrest, we contribute in some way to the recycling process.
We are really good at recycling for our learning room, using boxes, jars, tins and lots of other cool items. We use them in play, learning and art; these are seen all through our environment. Our current planning cycle focuses on us as Kaitiaki of BestStart Hillcrest, caring for our environment. We are very fortunate to have our fantastic whanau on board also.
By teaching our tamariki about recycling, we are sharing knowledge that could make a difference. Children may think twice about throwing something away or buying something that won’t be useful, and we are raising children who care for the environment.
Recycling doesn’t have to be a drag. Children shouldn’t feel the need to complain and whine about having to separate paper from plastic or trash from tins for rubbish collection. Recycling can be an opportunity to be something fun. Show them the endless possibilities for recycling household waste like papers.
Let them turn soda bottles into sprinklers or milk cartons into planters for their new seedlings to thrive. There are many ways to make something necessary for the kids to do into something they enjoy. Check out your local recycling business to see if they have any programs for kids.
