Reflecting on Matariki at Beststart Kauri Flats Centre
Beststart Kauri Flats Center recently celebrated Matariki, the Māori New Year, with a vibrant event that united tamariki and whanau in a spirit of cultural appreciation and community. Leading up to the celebration, the children actively learned about the significance of Matariki through guided activities, gaining a deeper understanding of its cultural importance and traditions.
The evening was a lively affair as our preschoolers led us in Matariki songs and dances, filling the air with enthusiasm and cultural pride. Following the performances, families gathered for a shared feast prepared lovingly by whanau, featuring dishes that honored the harvest season. Amidst stories and laughter, tamariki and their loved ones enjoyed the warmth of community and the richness of tradition. We cherish these moments as opportunities for learning and connection.
