Researching construction
The children at BestStart Papamoa Plaza went for a walk to the library, because we have project work around construction and wanted to find some books that will show us different types of construction.
We walked through the carpark observing all the rules about listening for traffic and looking around at all times. The learning the children took from this alone is immense, being safe around vehicles, dogs and other people are all aspects of our wider community here at Papamoa Plaza.
When we got to the library we quietly walked to the childrens area and we sat down and learnt about how to be respectful within the library, about using inside voices, placing books away when your finished reading and turning the pages gently. The children went and choose some books and sat quietly while they read them, they then choose their favourite book to take back to the centre.
We then walked to the non fiction part and found some books on construction which the children wanted to take back to the centre to share with their friends. The learning for this small but effective excursion is being safe in our community.
