This year at Montessori Otumotai we celebrated Chinese New Year and Lunar New Year!
With a special focus on the Year of the Horse, creating a meaningful and engaging experience for everyone.
With the wonderful support of our grandmothers and mums, the children were introduced to beautiful traditions and cultural activities that helped bring the celebration to life. Throughout the day, the children enjoyed playing traditional games and learning about the Year of the Horse, which represents strength, energy, and good fortune in the Chinese zodiac.
They had fun taking part in a Chinese dance, moving to festive music and trying out new steps together. One of the highlights was dressing up in traditional Chinese clothing. The children loved exploring the bright colours and intricate designs, especially the red and gold that symbolise luck and happiness. In the classroom, teachers and children made Chinese fortune cookies, carefully placing special messages inside.
The children also tasted sweet rice cakes and enjoyed delicious dumplings, sharing the experience of trying new foods together. It was a wonderful celebration that brought our community together and provided a valuable opportunity for the children to learn about and appreciate different cultures and traditions
