Today at BestStart Elles Road we celebrated Rare Disease Awareness Month with a bright and colourful day filled with laughter and fun.

Tamariki and kaiako came dressed in either white or vibrant colours to show support and raise awareness for those living with rare diseases. To mark the occasion, we set up an exciting obstacle course colour run.

Tamariki eagerly made their way through the course - climbing, balancing, and running - while kaiako gently tossed colourful powder into the air. The playground quickly filled with bursts of colour and joyful laughter. The smiles on the tamariki faces said it all as they cheered each other on and embraced the excitement of the day. In Aotearoa New Zealand, it is estimated that around 300,000 people are living with a rare disorder.

While each individual condition is uncommon, together rare diseases affect many individuals and whānau across our communities. Raising awareness helps build understanding, compassion, and support for those who live with rare conditions every day. Events like this reflect one of our centre priorities, whanaungatanga.

By coming together as a community to learn, support one another, and celebrate diversity, our tamariki are growing their sense of belonging and connection within the world around them.
