Best Start Epsom organised a “Karaoke Day” as one of our summer events. Every child was encouraged to sing in their home language or in English to showcase their singing skills. It was great fun singing along and dancing on the beats. Tamariki came on the stage and performed confidently in front of the group of their peers.

Not only in our over2’s but in our under2’s as well, we discovered our hidden rising stars. We were impressed that our babies and toddlers started repeating more words through singing their familiar songs. Their little feet couldn’t stop tapping on the beats.

The songs we played and sang were ‘Twinkle, twinkle little stars’, ‘Baa baa black sheep’, ‘Baby shark’, ’ABCD, ‘The wheels on the bus’, ‘Let it go’, ‘We’ll, we’ll rock you’ and many more. It was unlimited fun with great learnings.

Children are born into a world of sound and movement. Singing is soothing and assists in the development of listening skills, concentration, coordination, cooperation, communication, and memory. Music introduces children to new vocabularies, sound patterns, which helps develop their listening and comprehension skills, and provide benefits of building the necessary foundation for learning how to read in the future. Music is not just for enjoyment but helps children’s intellectual, imaginative, emotional, social, and cultural growth.
