Rocket Builders
BestStart Peachgrove re-opened for action in level three. We had a small group of children but that hasn't stopped us from learning and extending our interests. During the lockdown a few of our tamariki shared their interest in space and the planets - when they returned to the centre in level three we used this time to investigate that more. Our awesome kaiako read the tamariki stories about space and the planets and in this book they learnt more about Rockets - the children decided they wanted to build their own rockets at the centre - so this is what we did! They were able to pick what resources they wanted to use. One of our tamariki had shared with us during lock down a rocket he built at home with his whanau so he used his previous knowledge to help support his peers. This was a great way let tamariki think for themselves and lead their own learning but also collaborate ideas. We also talked about colors and shapes on a rocket which helps with their colour and shape recognition. We supported our tamariki through their interests to build upon literacy and numeracy and make connections with the world around them.
