March in the nursery has seen an explosion in role-play from shopping trips, baking birthday cakes in the sandpit and more recently an interest in babies.  The nursery tamariki I have enjoyed putting nappies and clothes on our dolls and taking them off again.  One day we decided to add a new routine to this and borrowed the doll baths from the toddler room. We had face cloths and bubbly water as well, making this experience as real as possible for our tamariki.  They were all so engaged for the extent of this experience from undressing the dolls, to washing and drying them, and once the dolls were dressed giving them a picnic lunch.  Providing these types of real-life experiences where children can act out situations enables them to make sense of what is happening in their lives and the world around them. We are hoping to extend this further and invite a real baby into the nursery for a bath, so watch this space.
