Rubbish and recycling
Recently, we had a visit from Briony Woodnorth, from the Timaru District Council, to the Kindergarten room to support our learning about rubbish and recycling. The tamariki have been working really hard at learning about what rubbish goes in which bin – general waste, compost, or recycling. This has been a fun process, using the colours of each bin to remind us, and with the children sharing their own knowledge from home, to help out others during our mealtimes.
Brionny bought in a range of new green, yellow and red bins, as well as bin liners; vegetable seeds for our gardens; posters; stickers, and a range of pamphlets with information that we will be able to share with children, parents/ families/ whanau and colleagues in the future. She also spent some time talking to the tamariki about ways of looking after our planet, recycling, and how to make up their own mini green otto bin that they could take home with them.
Tamariki from the Preschool and Nursery rooms joined in too as this is a topic that the whole Centre is getting involved in.
We are also very grateful for some free compost from the council to refresh our garden beds. Thank you very much Brionny and the Timaru District Council.
