Sandy Mud
Today Miss Jess put a whole lot of sand and water into the trough for us to explore. This texture was thick, oozy and sloppy. It made a good sound as we scooped it up and timed it back into the trough. We added some dry sand to explore how this new material would affect the sand. It mixed in to create more sloppy sand mud.
We loved digging our hands in creating knowledge about this material through our sense of touch. Using our eyes, we used our sense of sight to watch the sand change consistency as we added dry sand as well as change shape as it fell from our hands. We used our sense of hearing to listen to the changes with the sand due to the water it made a louder noise and thumping sound is it fell from our hands.
Throughout this experience Jess communicated with us about the changes and what senses we could use to explore this material further. Jess also demonstrated ways to move, dig, drop and feel the sand. Through the facilitation of the Muddy Sand we were able to gain a better understanding around this material as well as the different ways our senses can be manipulated to create a better understanding our material and Natural world.
