School holiday special events
During the month of January at BestStart Hastings Central we have enjoyed an exciting activity one day in each of the 4 weeks, adding enjoyment and richness to our curriculum for our tamariki.
Week 1 we had a Teddy Bear's picnic. Children learned about what it entails to organize and enjoy a picnic, and how we could enjoy this with our families during the summer months. A picnic lunch was enjoyed together, which also created the perfect opportunity for listening to books being read by a teacher.
Week 2 was Wacky Hair Day! Tamariki came in with all sorts of wacky and interesting hair styles and colours, and others enjoyed having their hair done by a teacher. Might there perhaps be a couple of hairdressers in the making, we wondered.
Week 3 we had a Athletics Day. Leading up to this day, children each made and decorated their own medal which was given out at a medal ceremony at the end of the day. Everyone enjoyed a variety of sports activities including running races and ring toss. Tamariki learned about keeping our bodies active, strong and healthy.
Week 4 was entitled "I am a Superhero too!". Children and teachers came in dressed as their favourite superhero, and what a great variety we had! We had a fashion parade and special photo booth, celebrating each individual child for the superhero that they are. Each one of us is a unique and wonderful individual being which brings a whole world of knowledge and experiences of our own to our centre.
