To us, literacy and numeracy are essential life skills and children need opportunities to use them in real life situations. We believe that when children are exposed to literacy and numeracy learning through hands-on, practical and play based experiences, they engage meaningfully and successfully.

The following is a short story from one of our wonderful teachers to a child in the centre:

You are always very helpful with me whenever I am building/fixing or just getting dirty. Today we were cleaning out a water barrel that had been filled up with sand. You were right there with your friends, elbow deep in wet sand finding all the treasure that people had hidden away. Working together to categorize and count each object you discovered.

Each time you found a new treasure, the excitement showed on your face as you held it up triumphantly. There were cars, toys, blocks, rocks and an amazing amount of spoons.

I always enjoy watching your enthusiasm as you discover new things. I wonder if you enjoy finding treasure and getting dirty at home?
