Seekers within our Surroundings
On a warm sunny morning we went on an exciting trip to a beautiful rural farm.
Into the BestStart centre van we climbed, our tamariki ma delightedly looking out of the windows and enjoying the views of our community. After a small drive, we finally arrived at our destination to explore all the wonderful learning opportunities it held. Our tamariki ma were excited as they hopped off the van, eager to find out what was on the farm.
After exploring their surroundings, we were able to interact with many animals such as pigs, including very small baby piglets. Aswell as ducks, chickens, rabbits, goats and even our own centre guinea pigs, KitKat and Milky’s siblings. We experienced what a real farm looked like. We have been exploring what a farming community might be like in real like after reading our very favorite book ‘old Macdonald had a farm’ quite often for our mat times.
Venturing out of the centre, into these beautiful surroundings, also brings alive our living vision of 'Seekers within our Surroundings'. We were able to support and scaffold our current learning cycle of nature and living things into this beautiful learning experience. This it was a great opportunity to extend our learning about various animal's habits and what animals need to ensure they are well cared for. We feel that it is important to embed into our learners the importance of being respect for living things, as well as supporting and develop our children's empathy towards others.
