The Pepe and Fern Rooms have really been enjoying lots of sensory play. The warm weather has been great for water exploration and the tamariki have been exploring many different textures, temperatures and consistency of their messy play. As always our tamariki did not shy away from exploring these textures with all senses. We enjoyed rubbing slime all over our faces, running foam through our hands, tipping water on our feet and tasting anything and everything in sight.

Sensory activities, in addition to being fun and interesting for babies and young children, encourage children to explore and investigate. Furthermore, these activities support children to use the ‘scientific method’ of observing, forming a hypothesis, experimenting and making conclusions.
