Sensory Play experiences

We have noticed an increasing interest in the sensory play and Kaiako planned and provided a variety of sensory experiences such as gloop, moon sand, painting, play dough and playing in the sand pit. Children absolutely enjoyed participating in these as we involved them in the process of preparation.

Our toddlers love to be the leaders of their own learning with a support and guidance from their teaches. They love to talk about the ingredients needed and get to choose the colours, going for a walk to the kitchen and then mixing the ingredients together. It was amazing to see them learning to work together and learning to be confident to verbally communicate with each other and with their teachers.  They have been busy exploring their senses as they had fun pouring, moulding, filling, emptying, experimenting, mixing the colours to make new colours.

Research shows that toddlers have a number of benefits of sensory play because sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills and social skills. It was awesome to see them developing these skills during their play. During this month we also had a few events such as our annual easter egg hunt where children and families came to the centre and enjoyed playing games, face painting, crafts, hunting for the eggs and connecting together. We also celebrated Anzac Day by inviting our grandparents for an afternoon tea and it was awesome to get to know them and to see children enjoying the company of their grandparents.

Watching children to reach their milestones and celebrating their success is always a great pleasure for us and this month we celebrated Nao's graduation as she moved to Kawakawa room.
