Nurturing Literacy, Language, and Resilience at our centre!
Each week in our Set for School programme, we dive into literacy-rich experiences that support our tamariki in becoming confident, resilient learners.
Here's a snapshot of what we've been up to:
Book of the Week: Oh! The Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss
This timeless story is more than just a fun rhyme—it’s a reflection of our centre’s vision. It teaches our tamariki about resilience, perseverance, and the excitement of new adventures. Through shared reading, we explored the ups and downs of life and how we can face challenges with courage and optimism.
Letter of the Week: C
We got creative with the letter C by making our own Cows—complete with horns. eyes colourful spots! This hands-on activity helped reinforce letter recognition and phonemic awareness in a fun, tactile way.
Te Reo Māori with Whaea Sharmese
We are incredibly lucky to have Whaea Sharmese leading our weekly Te Reo Māori lessons. This week, tamariki learned new kupu (words) related to animals and people, linking beautifully with our book and letter themes. These sessions strengthen cultural identity and language development.
Whānau Voice
We’ve received wonderful feedback from our local Kura, who appreciate the way our programme supports early literacy and transitions to school. Their insights help us shape a curriculum that’s responsive, inclusive, and grounded in our community’s values.
