At Pipiwai Kindy, we continue to place a strong focus on building a curriculum that supports children in developing the skills and confidence needed for their transition to school. Our “Set for School” programme is naturally embedded throughout our daily routines, interactions, and play experiences.

We recognise that children learn best through meaningful relationships, hands-on experiences, and opportunities to explore at their own pace. Every day, tamariki are encouraged to build social competencies through sharing, taking turns, problem-solving, negotiating with peers, and expressing their thoughts, feelings, and ideas.

Kaiako work closely alongside children to support emotional regulation, communication, resilience, and confidence, helping them develop a strong sense of self and belonging within our kindy environment.

Intentional teaching and planning also provide many opportunities for early literacy and mathematical learning. Tamariki regularly engage with letter recognition, recognising and writing their names, exploring books and environmental print, counting experiences, and learning about concepts such as quantity, volume, mass, and measurement through play.

Our mat times continue to encourage sustained learning and thinking while supporting participation, leadership, listening skills, and confidence in group settings.

Through all that we do, we remain committed to providing a rich, nurturing, and play-based learning environment that supports each child’s unique journey and prepares them for a confident transition to kura.
