At BestStart Pipiwai Kindy, a major focus of our curriculum is to teach our tamariki to care for the world around them and everything within it. Two important aspects of our curriculum involve “Sustainability” and “Contributing to the Community” and this is reflected in both our Innovation Award and our Bronze Medal Enviroschool Award. These aspects are taught within our centre and extend to the wider local community, such as our Community Garden called Te Koha (The Gift), which allows us to provide vegetables and fruit to our whanau and the local community.
We focus on school readiness by providing experiences for small and large groups of tamariki that cater for emerging interests, as well as developing close relationships with our local schools. We are a project-based centre where we provide our tamariki with the skills to research, inquire, and problem-solve through their investigation of natural loose parts. All areas of learning are accessible for our tamariki throughout the day and children are encouraged to participate in all activities across the curriculum.
At BestStart Pipiwai Kindy, our qualified teaching team pride ourselves on the quality and experience each staff member brings to the warm, safe and fun learning environments we provide for tamariki. Our kaiako (teachers) provide a programme that supports and encourages young growing minds with the aim of preparing your child with the required skills for their transition to school while establishing relationships within the local community.
Our natural, spacious centre allows for excellent indoor-outdoor flow, giving the children a choice of different learning environments. The outdoor area consists of natural gardens that the kaiako and children care for, a large sandpit, water play area, large open spaces, and an adventure playground which promotes active movement.
