Discover our unique rooms

Our natural, spacious centre allows for excellent indoor-outdoor flow, giving the children a choice of different learning environments. The outdoor area consists of natural gardens that the kaiako and children care for, a large sandpit, water play area, large open spaces, and an adventure playground which promotes active movement.

Indoor space

We strive to offer a rich variety of learning experiences that inspire curiosity and imaginative play. Drawing on play-based curriculum and intentional teaching, our Set for School programme evolves from the current interests and individual learning needs of all tamariki.

We observe and respond to children’s curiosities, building an emergent curriculum that reflects their interests—much like the Reggio Emilia-inspired, project-based approach, which invites children to investigate, explore, and create through open-ended inquiry. Our educators act as co-researchers, engaging in respectful dialogue, asking thoughtful questions, and supporting children as active constructors of their own learning

In line with Reggio Emilia principles, our environment is an active, intentional participant in learning—not just a backdrop. We create flexible, aesthetically pleasing, natural-light-filled spaces with real tools, natural materials, and thoughtfully arranged resources that invite exploration, collaboration, and expression. Spaces evolve alongside the children—reflecting their evolving interests and supporting communicative, social, and creative growth.

Our vision is deeply rooted in kaitiakitanga, manaakitanga, and whanaungatanga—embedding a Māori worldview of guardianship, care, respect, and community. These values mirror our approach to stewardship of both environment and relationships, nurturing children to become responsible and generous contributors. Aligned with Te Whāriki, we focus on working theories, holistic development, and pedagogical documentation—honoring culture, family, and identity in every learning moment.

Outdoor Space

Our outdoor environment is a cherished space, thoughtfully designed to nurture exploration, creativity, and a deep connection to nature. Divided into three distinct areas—a dynamic playground, an adventurous bike track and sandpit, and a flourishing garden—our outdoor space offers a rich tapestry of experiences for tamariki. Here, children engage in active play, develop physical skills, and immerse themselves in the rhythms of the natural world.

Central to our garden is the care of our two bunnies, Caramel and Boysenberry, who provide opportunities for children to develop empathy, responsibility, and a sense of guardianship over living creatures. This hands-on experience fosters a deep understanding of kaitiakitanga—the Māori concept of guardianship and protection of the environment. Through activities like tending to the worm farm and recycling compost, tamariki learn the importance of sustainability and the interconnectedness of all living things .

Our outdoor space is more than just a play area; it is a living classroom where tamariki cultivate a sense of belonging, develop their mana (authority and respect), and build lasting connections to the whenua (land). By engaging in these meaningful activities, children not only enhance their physical and cognitive development but also grow into mindful kaitiaki—guardians of the earth.
