Settling Back In
Here in the Pūrerehua room this month we have been settling back into the room after a nice Christmas break. Everyone has settled really well and has enjoyed the lovely weather with lots of water play.
We have still been discussing our pets as part of our room project. We still haven’t got our axolotl yet but we are hopeful we will get it soon. We do have yellow fish though that the tamariki like to find, because it likes to hide.
As well as our pet project we are also still looking at our gardens. The Pūrerehua kaiako and tamariki are working with our cook to plant and grow our own kai. We have had some great results, we have harvested some of our silverbeet, spinach, and apples. This is an important part of our culture and centre philosophy around sustainable practice and healthy eating. We also have such a huge interest in bugs within the room that it is also a great opportunity to discuss what bugs or insects we can find in our gardens and how they help our plants grow, like worms or how they eat our plants, like white butterflies.
