Settling back into the centre
At BestStart Wolverton Street we were super excited to return to the place we call home. We began Level Three with two bubbles full of love and warmly welcomed our tamariki and whanau back. Like our amazing teachers, some of our tamariki were still enjoying our BestStart@Home where every day there were exciting opportunities and ideas offered to our tamariki and whanau to enjoy at home.
Although our centre looked mostly the same our tamariki were quick to notice some of the Level Three changes which kept us all healthy and safe. They were intrigued by the thermometers and regular temperature checking and very quickly settled into wearing no shoes inside, an initiative we have embraced and now continue. Another highlight for our tamariki was bringing their own lunchbox, which we know many of them helped Mum and Dad to make. They enjoyed discovering what was inside their lunchbox each day, engaging in great discussions with peers and teachers around healthy kai and practising how to open some tricky packaging. It was all new, exciting and we had lots of fun in our bubbles!
Soon came a special day to celebrate our Mum’s, our celebrations at home and the centre resulted in some wonderful cards, these were so sweet they had some of our mum’s shedding tears of love and joy! Our days soon became busier as new friends started to return and our wonderful teachers, cook’s, administrator’s and van drivers arrived.
Our tamariki enjoyed so many inspiring and creative experiences during May, from learning and exploring yoga, burying ourselves with shredded paper, to getting creative as we delved into some imaginary play and became paleontologists as we tracked our dinosaurs who were playing in green water and eating some lovely smelling herbs like mint and pineapple sage, they were definitely herbivores. It was not long until we had excavators in the making as our tamariki enjoyed destructing blocks of ice with hammers to discover what objects were hidden inside.
Our architects were hard at work as they constructed their memories with their very own hands! While we were busy immersed in learning at the centre, there were rockets taking off from some of our children’s homes, teddy bear hunts underway, making nature bracelets and our baby seedlings sprouting! It was certainly a time of change, innovation, creation, resilience and most importantly kindness.
Level One here we come!
