Sharing With Friends at BestStart Barrington

In the Makomako room, we have been learning and exploring beside our friends (hoa). We love to explore the environment around the classroom and investigate the resources and activities available throughout our day, making our own discoveries and theories along with our friends. The kaiako have been encouraging opportunities to investigate together and experiment with our discoveries with our hoa. Recently, we have noticed friendships being built and experiences being shared. With friends now smiling with, encouraging (through pushing the resource towards their hoa), and joining group activities. When discoveries are made, the children laugh, smile and squeal with delight with their friends.

The Nursery is a shared environment, with the children interacting and sharing resources through shared experiences outside. This has resulted in the older hoa taking a leadership relationship with their younger friends at times. When possible, the kaiako encourage them to support and guide their younger friends to try new experiences and activities. Either holding hands with them during dancing, walking on the bridge, or taking them for a ride in the trolleys and bikes, while the younger children have the opportunity to see the environment from a new perspective.

This supports the centre's continued focus on emotional resilience, to create an empathic and sharing environment for all.
