Smoothie Making, YUM!
The children and Kaiako at regent Kindy have been talking a lot about healthy kai over the summer period, especially healthy fruits and vegetables. One of our Older children Ryan shared that he enjoyed making smoothies at home with his mum. We decided as part of our healthy heart afternoon tea’s we would introduce some smoothies to the menu. We involved the tamariki (children) as part of this process and asked them what ideas they had for fruit that could go into smoothies. Banana was their choice as well as blueberries. The Kaiako suggested peaches, plums, strawberries and all sorts of other fruit. So one afternoon we set up the table with a variety of bowls full of different fruit, and milk and we got the children to help make their own smoothies.
They loved them. What a healthy and refreshing treat for afternoon tea.
The learning that went on for the tamariki (children) as part of this activity was:
Developing Planning and comprehensive skills
Maths and science
Hand-eye co-ordination
Turn-taking
Language development
