So much fun in our great outdoors!
Here at BestStart Ngatai Rd we are very lucky to have a large outdoor environment in our Titoki Room (Over 2’s) and make the most of everything that it has to offer. When they say the “environment is the 3rd teacher” it really is in our space. So many learning opportunities for children and so much fun to have.
We are very fortunate to have the space for swings, the children love them not only for a quiet relaxing time but also, they promote sharing and turn taking and a good chance for conversations as they push their friends.
We have a very big sandpit; this enables the children the space to either work independently or with groups of children. Many different skills across many different curriculum areas are used and explored while playing in the sandpit. Water is quite often added to the sand pit area, but we also have space where water play can be separate to make the learning more focussed.
With a large outdoor space, we have many different pieces of climbing equipment, we can change these up depending on the needs of the children. Everything we have is interchangeable and can be adapted to suit the abilities of our children.
Around the outside of our playground, we have a bike track, this provides the room for children to be able to work on their scooter or bike skills and gives them a place to run and have races.
There is a lot of space for imaginative play and our two whare’s give children a quiet space to relax or a place to use for wherever their imagination takes them. It is amazing the conversations and ideas for play that you hear coming from these areas.
With such a big area we have room for extra table activities to be brought outside and it gives the children another space to learn.
Lastly, we have out infamous Cherry Blossom Tree, the children love to sit around the tree or perch just inside it and view their world around them.
