The nursery environment is very lucky to have a great tree that offers wonderful shade and protection from the sun in the warmer months. However, as the seasons change as does that tree and all the nursery children love exploring the results of this seasonal process.

As the leaves start to fall, we watch them drift to the ground, trying to catch them in our hands. As time goes on the leaves pile up and of course this is where we get to have more fun.

As kaiako pile the leaves up we can explore, feel move and crunch the leaves between our fingers and feet. We can throw them in the air and watch them fall to the ground, developing the concepts of gravity and sciences.

Through this exploration tamariki are making use of all their senses and physical abilities to make sense of the world.

Developing confidence in exploring, puzzling over and making sense of the world, using such strategies as setting and solving problems, looking for patterns, classifying, guessing, using trial and error, observing, planning, comparing, explaining, engaging in reflective discussion and listening to stories. Basically, we are having fun learning and being together.
