Social and Emotional competence

I would like to share this week's learning blog that our learning focus is social and emotional competence. Social and emotional competence includes a range of skills and knowledge such as identifying emotions, emotional regulation, social skills, self-management, and responsible decision-making which enable children/tamariki to interact effectively with others and achieve positive outcomes.

Teachers/kaiako create a positive social and emotional environment in our setting through intentional practice, consistent expectations, and positive tones. Make the most of everyday opportunities to help tamariki notice and describe their emotions as they occur. Kaiako model and provide opportunities to practice social skills, self-management skills, and skills for emotional regulation as we learn through play.
