Spring has sprung at BestStart Tory Street!

The tamariki have been exploring how to be a great kaitiakitanga of the outdoor learning environment. They have been doing this by digging in the outdoor gardens and preparing them for planting. Once the vegetable and herbs were purchased, the tamariki then learnt about each of the plants they were going to plant and then carefully planted them into the desired spots in the prepared planter boxes.

We look forward to sharing the vegetables and herbs with the families once they grow. To enhance the learning, the teaching team got some mung beans, plastic zip-lock bags, and some wet paper towels. Each child chose 10 seeds, placed them carefully into the zip lock bags and decorated the outside of the bag. They then were placed onto the window in the room and we eagerly waited to watch them grow.

The tamariki have been learning about the process of growing from a seed to a stem to a plant, we cannot wait to see them grow. Learning about being great kaitiakitanga, tamariki also develop working theories for making sense of the natural, social, physical and material worlds.
