St John Ambulance came to visit us!

1

Recently we organised with St John paramedics, to come and visit nga tamariki in the centre. Nikki was our visiting paramedic, she bought along with her some great learning resources. We started with Nikki introducing herself, and what her job entails. Nikki then read a book, it described what paramedics do for their role. The book also explained whats inside an ambulance, and what they use each item for. After we had discussed all of the above, Nikki started her education around common things that children may be required to go in an ambulance for. Nga tamariki all got the chance to put the oxygen mask on, this is great to expose nga tamariki to before an incident where this is actually required. Next Nikki bought out some bandages, each child got to take part wrapping a bandage around their friends arm. We were rather impressed with nga tamariki, and their bandage skills on their friends. Once Nikki was all finished, nga tamariki surprised her with some yellow and green cupcakes. We had made these earlier in the day for her, and they handed her a handmade card. This was a great learning oppourtunity for the tamariki at Beststart Parklands, and we look forward to having St John back again soon!
