Stand Up and Stand out, wear pink shirt day here at Best Start Onehunga. We celebrate Pink Shirt Day here in the Kea room by creating our very own pink shirt through arts and crafts. A safe space where our tamariki can learn, play, laugh, and grow has no room for bullying. Through exploring different media our tamariki gained and developed fine motor skills, hand and eye coordination, verbal and non-verbal communication as well as building and maintaining good relationships with peers and friends within their learning environment.

As teachers, we feel that it is important for our tamariki to understand what anti-bullying means. Being able to share with our tamariki about using gentle hands and standing up for themselves by using their words. Learning to share with one another and showing our friends aroha is something we encourage here in the Kea room and our tamariki show that through hugs, playing together, sharing toys, waiting patiently, and taking turns.

Caring for one another is what we are good at. Whanau gave positive feedback on changes and achievements they have learned and developed in the classroom being carried out at home. Aroha mai aroha atu, koreko mai korero atu.
