Staying connected with Zoom!
During the recent level 4 lockdown (Rahui), Te Atatu Peninsula teachers (Kaiako) embraced the opportunity to keep connected with children and teach online. It was such an unusual and stressful time for many families that we wanted to continue to support them and provide parents with activities and ideas. We shared daily posts that supported and continued learning at home.
Our families (whanau) found these valuable and helpful, sharing their child's learning journey with us. Each room held twice weekly zoom meetings and started with children getting used to seeing their teachers on the screen!
The zoom sessions progressed to singing songs, reading stories and tamariki (children) sharing with us what they had been doing in their bubble, their favourite things in their homes, and any arts and crafts they had been doing. We found these zoom meetings a fantastic way to stay connected with our tamariki and support our whanau and for tamariki to keep in touch with their friends. Through these connections online we saw our centre community come together stronger and it helped children settle back into the centre after the break.
Moving to Level 3 was exciting as families started to return to the centre. Check out our video welcoming all families back to the centre.
