Here at Montessori Mosgiel we always encourage children to take opportunities for leadership and to be responsible.

Leadership development is the process of teaching children leadership skills that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. Inspiring and caring for each other, taking on responsibility, and organisation are all important skills to support the development of children's ability to become a leader.  Leadership skills link to the belonging strand in our Early Childhood curriculum, Te Whaariki, where children know they have a purpose, through taking part in caring for this place.

Brooke is such a kind, helpful member of our class, always enjoying taking on an active role in the running of the programme in the Kiwi room. Often the children will ask to help set up for lunch. Brooke helped set out all the placemats, plates and cutlery. She counted out with a little help how many placemats, bowls, cutlery and glasses we would need so that every child had one. The children are always so proud of themselves for helping out and taking responsibility within the classroom. Brooke now sets the table at home and says karakia kai for her family!
